in response to Starshine... Oh dear...you are a horse person too. Should have seen it. lol
I was forever at the stable, plus the nice thing about Scouts was that I knew the stable we'd go to...I worked there in the summer. When I was staying with my Uncle on the ranch...it was farm work (which isn't really work cause you have a lot of fun when you're a kid doing it.)
Clearing a field of rocks, pulling up Marigolds that had taken over a field left to fallow for a year...lol I was a squirt of about 4' trying to yank up Marigolds that were about 6' high and wearing oversized work gloves and digging round the roots with a hand trowel. My cousins are ripping up plants and tossing them around all about me.
We looked like someone had dumped a truckload of pixie dust on us when we came out of that field! I got stuck being called "Tink" for that week while we reclaimed that field since I was small and trailed yellow dust everywhere I went...lol
When I wasn't at my Uncle's and I was staying with my Mother...I would try to get to a stable and plead to work there. Mucking stalls and grooming, I would show that I knew my way around and would mostly end up getting in really tight with the owner.
Which is why when our troop leader was looking for a stable we could ride at...I recommended the one I worked at. So not only did I drum up some much needed business, I got to be the one who knew where everything was and which horses would fit who in the troop. The owner of the stable liked the idea and actually started planning out how to add a bunkhouse to set up a dude ranch side business.
See? even as a little squirt I was into things...maybe I'm a muse of sorts myself. lol
That ritzgrp is the site I'm doing right now. I've even got three sites of my own, plus I got a fourth to collect all my sites into as a big portfolio site...besides it will help me keep track of all my sites, blogs and profiles too. There is so many pieces of me floating about that I really need to start gathering them up. lol
Now what is this about a stolen license...when did that happen?
I still need to get my ID renewed...I've just had to wait to get the money for it...and with the bills due and the child support not showing up...grrr... I'm behind as usual.
Oh, doing badges was sorta my hobby. I had a tendency to do them on my own though. I had plenty of adults that signed off for my parts - plus the troop leader used to shake her head when I'd come in to show here all I'd done. She'd sign my page and then off I'd go to finish up the other 3-4 I was still working on...
I couldn't help it really...I liked the little patches...lol
I wasn't the sort for Jamboree's or for Camp and such...I preferred working on my own and doing other things. The creative dabbler, the book one, storyteller, family tree, pets, horseback riding, bowling, archery, first aid, lol I can see in my memory all those little patches & pictures swirling around...lol
Unfortunately, I never knew what happened to my sash or my uniform. When I came back one summer...my Mother had moved and I don't know where all my things went. I knew there was a lot of things missing from my boxes, stuff I never found. Plus I would have had to been a cadet if I went back, but earning money for what I needed seemed to take presidency over scouts at that time.
I'd even stayed a scout an extra year, just so that my pals and I could become cadets together. I had a really sweet leader, she understood...I even got a chance to earn a few special badges that year since I had so many and there wasn't many left to get.
Sometimes I think it would've been different if I'd been able to stay in the scouts...but we can't reroll the dice of life...even when we really wish we could.
Okay have waffled on long enough so stay warm, hope that things work out for you and take care of yourself...
